Plot
When a man returns to the beach side of his hometown in Australia, he is humiliated by a local group of surfers in front of his teenage son, who claims ownership of the sheltered beach of his childhood. He received a six-minute standing ovation at the 77th Cannes Film Festival. The festival… The story unfolds when Cage arrives at a beach that has great meaning for him. However, when he is taunted and forbidden to surf there with his son, it sets off a series of events that gradually become detached from reality and leave the audience questioning even the reality we are witnessing. One aspect I appreciate is the sunk cost fallacy, the tendency to continue an effort we’ve invested in even though the current costs outweigh the benefits. Recently faced with a similar decision, I understand how challenging it is to step back and accept defeat. Watching this at the GL theater with Cage and the rest of the crew was a very enjoyable experience.😄
